Profile: Lord Detraf of the Seven Cities

A/N: The villain our heroes meet most often is one Lord Detraf, a human warlock with psychic abilities and an evil plan for the realm. There is some question as to whether or not Lord Detraf works alone, but one thing's for sure, nobody likes the dude. Here's his profile. - Rachl

Lord Detraf of the Seven Cities

Race: Human Warlock

Age: 57

Height: 6'4”

Gender: Male

General Appearance: I imagine Detraf as a tall, imposing kind of guy with a receding hairline. He's just a little overweight and he wears long black robes with silver embroidery and buttons. His robes are very fine quality, only the best for Detraf. His thinning hair is black peppered with gray. Sometimes he wears a hairpiece. His eyes are brown. His eyebrows are very bushy and curl up at the ends, like any self-respecting warlock's eyebrows should do. He has a hooked nose.

Personality: After tapping into an ancient dark force, Detraf became corrupted and evil, set on dominating the realm and all its people. Before tapping into that ancient dark force, he was still corrupt and evil and set on dominating the realm. Some people don't need a lot of encouragement.

He is also pretty obsessive about his work as an historian, which ultimately lead him to that ancient dark force mentioned above. In addition, he is very arrogant and certain that he is destined to harness the dark force and defeat the realm's champions. He is particularly interested in the Cerebrum crystal, as its abilities most closely match his own psychic powers. Ideally, he would like to harness Cerebrum's powers for himself, but will settle for persuading the crystal's user, Alaster, to fight for him. He has similar interests in the Void crystal, because of its connection to the dark force, and also attempts to convince its user, Artemis, to join him. He feels the Void crystal may be the secret behind harnessing the dark force for his own purposes.

Occasionally, Detraf experiences a little performance anxiety. Luckily, he has his assistant Tish to cheer him up and remind him that he's the most powerful dark warlock in the realm.

All in all, he's a pretty creepy guy who is willing to do pretty much whatever he has to do to achieve his goals.

Occupation: First and foremost, Detraf is an historian. He has always had a great deal of interest in the story of the champions of the realm who defeated the dark force once and sealed it away. This interest led to him becoming a warlock in his efforts to unlock and harness the dark force. His magic is entirely learned, and I suspect it is derived from the dark force.

Weapons: Detraf relies exclusively on his magical/telepathic abilities as a warlock. He first acquired his abilities through a ritual that caused the death of Artemis' mother, a cleric of Terra, who was corrupted and driven insane by the dark force as a result.

Family: Detraf is an only child and his parents have long since passed away. The closest thing he has to a family member is Tish, his assistant. Which is better, because it's more okay to send your assistant on coffee runs than it is to send your parents on coffee runs.

Religion/Spirituality: Unlike most inhabitants of the realm, Detraf does not worship the gods. Instead, he seeks to overthrow them and become more powerful than they are, with the help of the dark force. In the beginning, he did not worship the dark force, but after being corrupted by it, he is now ultimately driven by it, even if he is not always aware of this.

Interpersonal Relationships: Most people don't really like Detraf. Tish is his loyal supporter, for some reason. I assume the job comes with great benefits. Detraf also has many loyal followers in the realm, like Aster Gwilimen. Most of Detraf's followers are elitists and believe that Detraf will “make the realm great again,” by which they actually mean that he will establish a government of the realm controlled primarily by those with the most wealth and clout. For some reason, many of his followers are humans.

Pretty much all of the members of the questing party hate Detraf. Artemis in particular has a grudge against him for his part in her mother's gruesome end. However, because she too is tainted by the dark force, she has a connection to him that she would rather not have. Detraf actively tries to recruit Alaster, who has always been creeped out by him. Shadow is very disturbed by how corrupted Detraf is by the dark force, especially since she was once corrupted herself. Zi and Blue both agree that he's a nasty dude and they'd like to stay far away from him.
